# Stride > Stride is a web app for teams to plan and run their work: projects and tasks on boards, lists, calendars and timelines, team chat with public and private channels, time tracking, a shared list of clients and contacts, and AI helpers that turn plain English into tasks, break work down, write weekly status reports, flag what's at risk and answer questions about your work. This page explains how it works, in plain text, for people and AI assistants. Site: https://stride.lycore.com Animated walkthroughs: https://stride.lycore.com/how-to One-minute tour of the whole app: https://stride.lycore.com/how-to/stride-in-one-minute Try it without signing up: "Try it now" on https://stride.lycore.com/auth/login opens an example workspace --- ## 1. Core concepts - **Workspace**: one organization (a tenant), e.g. "Brightwave Studio". Everything belongs to a workspace and workspaces never see each other's data. Each workspace has a name and a URL slug; its pages live under `/c/{slug}`. - **Member**: a person in a workspace. One account can belong to several workspaces and switch between them from the workspace name at the top of the sidebar. - **Role**: every member has one role per workspace: Admin, Manager or Member (see section 2). - **Space**: a group of related projects inside a workspace, e.g. a team or department. - **Project**: lives in a space and holds tasks. Each project has its own statuses, members and custom fields. - **Task**: a piece of work in a project, with a status, priority, assignees, dates and an estimate. - **Status**: a column on the board (e.g. To Do, In Progress, Done). Each status belongs to a category: to do, in progress, done or cancelled. - **Channel**: a chat room in the workspace, public or private. - **Platform admin**: Stride staff who manage every account on the site (separate from workspace roles). ## 2. Roles and what they can do | Role | Can | |---|---| | Admin | Everything in the workspace: workspace settings and plan, audit log, invite anyone and change roles, deactivate members, create/archive/delete spaces and projects, see all projects, edit or delete any task, custom fields, contacts, everyone's time | | Manager | Invite members, create and archive spaces and projects, see all projects, edit or delete any task, custom fields, contacts, see and edit others' time | | Member | See the projects they belong to, create tasks and delete their own, move and edit tasks in projects where they are an editor or owner, view contacts, log their own time, create chat channels | Management controls (New Space, + Project) only appear for people allowed to use them. ## 3. Signing in and accounts - Sign in at `/auth/login` with email and password, or with Google. - New accounts sign up at `/auth/register` (name, email, password and optionally a company name, which creates a workspace). The email address must be confirmed from a link before signing in with a password. - Passwords need at least 12 characters with upper- and lowercase letters, a number and a symbol. Common words (like "password" or the product name), long runs of one character and your own email name are refused. - Forgot password: `/auth/forgot-password` emails a reset link that works for 1 hour. Setting a new password signs you out on every other device. - Someone without a workspace is taken to `/onboarding` to create one (name and URL slug). - **My account** (bottom of the sidebar): Profile settings (`/settings/profile`, change your display name) and Sign out. - **Try it now** (on the sign-in page and `/how-to`): signs you into a shared guest account (a Member) in "Brightwave Studio", an example workspace with made-up people, projects and clients. Anything you add there is visible to other visitors and everything is reset every night. The guest account can't change its profile or create workspaces; sign up for your own workspace for that. ## 4. Getting around The sidebar shows the workspace switcher, then Dashboard, Ask Stride, Chat, Time Tracking, Contacts and Settings, then your spaces and projects, then Notifications and My account. **Dashboard** (`/c/{slug}`): counts of projects, tasks and members, **Needs attention** (at-risk flags across your projects, see section 7) and your recent projects. ## 5. Spaces and projects - Admins and managers click **New Space** in the sidebar, then **+** next to a space to add a project. - Members see the projects they belong to; admins and managers see all of them. - Every project has four views: - **Board** (`/c/{slug}/projects/{id}/board`): one column per status; drag cards between columns to change their status. - **List**: every task in one table, sortable by title, priority or due date. - **Calendar**: tasks laid out by due date. - **Timeline**: tasks as bars across the weeks, from start date to due date. - **Project settings**: custom fields for the project's tasks (text, number, date, dropdown, checkbox, URL, people), each optionally required. ## 6. Tasks - Add a task with **+** at the top of a board column, or from `/c/{slug}/projects/{id}/tasks/new`. Fields: name, status, priority (no priority, low, medium, high, urgent), assignees and due date. - Click a card to open its details: status, priority, due date, start date, estimate, assignees, the project's custom fields and its subtasks. - Drag the card to another column as work moves along. ## 7. AI helpers All AI runs on Stride's servers; nothing is sent from your browser to an AI provider. Every AI request is recorded in the workspace audit log, and each person has a daily allowance (reset at midnight UTC): 50 plain-English tasks, 20 subtask breakdowns, 10 status reports and 50 Ask Stride questions. On the shared guest account the allowance is counted per visitor connection. - **Create tasks in plain English**: the box at the top of every project (for people who can add tasks there). Type e.g. "Remind Sara to send the invoice Friday, high priority" and press **Draft task**. Stride fills in the title ("Send the invoice"), assignee (Sara, matched against the project's members), due date (the coming Friday, in your time zone), priority and status. You check and edit the draft, then press **Create task**; nothing is created before that. - **Break into subtasks**: in any task's details, **Break into subtasks** proposes 3 to 8 concrete steps, each with an estimate. Untick the ones you don't want and press **Add**. Subtasks start in the project's first to-do status and are listed under the task. - **Status report**: **Status report** in a project's header writes a weekly report from the last 7 days of task activity: a short summary written by AI, then lists of tasks done this week, in progress, blocked (in a status whose name contains "blocked"), overdue and due in the next 7 days, which come straight from the tasks. **Copy** it, or pick a chat channel you're in and press **Post**. - **At-risk flags**: fixed rules (not AI) flag a project when its number of overdue tasks has gone up compared with a week ago (and is at least 2), or when one person holds at least half of its open assigned tasks (with 5 or more open assigned tasks); and flag a task that has stayed in an in-progress status for 7 days or more, or in a to-do status for 14 days or more while due within a week. The AI only writes the one-sentence explanation. Flags show as an **At risk** / **Needs attention** badge in the project header and under **Needs attention** on the dashboard; click one to open the task. - **Ask Stride** (`/c/{slug}/ask`): ask questions about your workspace, e.g. "What's overdue in Engineering?", "What is Priya working on?" or "What's due this week?". It is read-only (it can't create or change anything), it only sees the projects you can open (admins and managers: all projects; members: the projects they belong to), and tasks in its answers are links that open the task. ## 8. Chat - **Chat** (`/c/{slug}/chat`) lists your channels. **Add channel** creates one; names are lowercase letters, numbers, - and _. - **Public** channels can be found and joined by anyone in the workspace under **Browse channels**. - **Private** channels are invite-only. The creator opens the members button in the channel header to invite people (they get an invitation to accept at the top of their channel list and in Notifications), cancel invites, or remove members. - Messages support quick emoji reactions. New messages appear on their own, without reloading. ## 9. Time tracking - **Time Tracking** (`/c/{slug}/time`): type what you're working on, pick a project and press **Start**; press **Stop** to save the entry. - **Log time manually** for time you didn't run a timer for: date, hours, minutes, project and a note. - The page shows today's entries, today's and this week's totals, and this week's time by project. ## 10. Contacts and clients - **Contacts** (`/c/{slug}/contacts`): people you work with, with name, email, phone, title, client, owner, tags and notes. - **Clients** (`/c/{slug}/contacts/clients`): organizations, with company name, website, industry, tags and notes; each client has its own page with its contacts. ## 11. Team and settings - **Settings → General** (`/c/{slug}/settings`, admins): workspace name, URL slug and current plan. - **Settings → Members** (`/c/{slug}/settings/members`): **Invite member** by email with a role. The invitation email link (`/invitations/{token}`) works for 7 days; until it's accepted it's listed under **Pending invitations**, where it can be resent or revoked. Admins can change a member's role, deactivate them and reactivate them. - **Settings → Audit log** (`/c/{slug}/settings/audit`, admins): who did what and when in the workspace, including every AI request and any request refused for being over the daily allowance. ## 12. Notifications The **Notifications** bell at the bottom of the sidebar shows a count of unread notifications, such as invitations to private chat channels. Opening it marks them as read. ## 13. Platform administration Platform admins have an admin panel at `/admin` (hidden from everyone else). They can see every account across all workspaces, create users, set a new password or email a reset link, lock and unlock accounts (a locked account is signed out at once and can't sign in), sign someone out everywhere, mark an email as verified, grant platform admin, and "log in as" a user to see what they see (shown with a bar at the top and a "Back to admin view" button). Every action is recorded in the platform audit log. ## 14.
